Optimal soybean maturity group selection is influenced by planting date in northern production systems

چکیده

Abstract Changing climate conditions have resulted in a shift towards longer growing seasons Michigan and other northern U.S. states, providing soybean [ Glycine Max (L.) Merr.] growers an opportunity to achieve early planting dates (PDs). However, increasingly variable spring precipitation may result wide range of PDs. Current maturity group (MG) recommendations are based only on optimal PD not fully utilize the available season. To determine how MG selection should be adjusted PD, six varieties ranging from 1.0 3.5 were planted four PDs (from late April June) during 2018 2019 at two locations Michigan. Seed yield increased by average 286, 171, 73.0 kg ha −1 for each 0.5‐MG increase when was conducted day year (DOY) 120, 140, 160, respectively. When delayed DOY 180, there reduction 51.4 increase. The using correlated with seeds m −2 which mainly driven consistent cumulative degree days pod seed set. Results this study indicate that can profitability adjusting such maximum season is utilized. Specifically, late‐season maximize profits.

PLANTÐINSECT INTERACTIONS Influence of Soybean Planting Date and Maturity Group on Stink Bug (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) Populations

Field experiments were conducted in Stoneville, MS, to determine the impact of soybean planting date and maturity group on stink bug (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) populations. Maturity group IV and V soybeans were planted on three planting dates in 2003 and 2004. Planting dateswere lateMarchÐearlyApril, lateAprilÐearlyMay, and lateMayÐearly June. Plotswere sampled weekly with a standard 38.1-cm-d...

Planting Date and Soybean Cultivar Maturity Group Affect Population Dynamics of Heterodera glycines, and All Affect Yield of Soybean.

Five soybean cultivars, one each from Maturity Groups (MG) III, IV, V, VI, and VII, all susceptible to Heterodera glycines, were planted in H. glycines-infested soil in April, May, June, and July at multiple locations in Arkansas and Missouri. The purpose of the study was to determine whether planting early reduces yield losses due to H. glycines. The population levels of cysts, eggs, and secon...

Seed dormancy and seedling vigour as influenced by planting time environment and date of harvest in rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Seed dormancy is a genetically inherited trait whose intensity is modified by the environment during seed development and maturation. In order to study the effect of harvest time on the seed quality and optimum time of sowing to obtain good quality seeds, freshly threshed seeds of ten diverse rice genotypes harvested from six environments were evaluated for seed dormancy and seedling vigour ind...

Influence of Planting Date on Damage to Soybean Caused by Heterodera glycines.

Bragg soybeans were planted in nematicide-treated and nontreated plots on 15 May, 15 June, 1 July, and 15 July in 1980 and 1981 to determine the influence of planting date on damage caused by H. glycines. Although earlier studies showed the nematode was sensitive to high soil temperatures (> 34 C), late planting did not reduce damage caused by the nematode. Yields from plots treated with 1, 2-d...

Genetic variation of world soybean maturity date and geographic distribution of maturity groups

The maturity date of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) is sensitive to photoperiod, which varies with latitude and growing seasons. The maturity group (MG) system, composed of 13 MGs, is a major approach in characterizing varieties' ecological properties and adaptable areas. A total of 512 world soybean varieties, including 48 MG checks, were tested at a major site (Nanjing, 32.04°N) with portio...
